Restoration and Meadow Technician

Job Description:

We are seeking a motivated and dependable individual to join our team as a Restoration and Meadow Technician specializing in native plant meadows and ecological restoration in residential and protected areas.  This role involves hands-on work in the field, including supporting the installation and maintenance of native meadows, invasive species management, and creekbank erosion control among other conservation related projects.

Responsibilities:

• Meadow Preparation: Support the installation of meadows by preparing a site for ecologically focused native plantings. Use chemical and manual control methods to remove nonnative turf grasses and invasive species in accordance with a developed preparation plan.

• Planting and Transplanting: Assist in planting site-appropriate native wildflowers, grasses, trees, shrubs, and other vegetation in accordance with project goals.  Plant plugs, seed mix, and woody vegetation per project species list.

• Invasive Plant Species Management: Identify and treat invasive or non-native plant species in residential landscapes and other project areas. Use manual, mechanical, and chemical control methods as appropriate to remove invasive plants while minimizing harm to native vegetation.  Follow company protocols regarding safe handling of herbicides in accordance with herbicide labeling and state/federal law.  Appropriate PPE as required.  

• Planting maintenance: Follow project maintenance plan for each installation as necessary.  This may include mowing, cutting, or spot treatment of invasive vegetation. 

• Maintenance: Properly store tools and equipment and perform routine maintenance tasks such as equipment cleaning and tool sharpening.

• Restoration: Assist in livestake harvesting and order processing plus fascine and other restoration product building.  Support restoration work in the field by installing erosion control materials, live stakes, fascines, plugs, and seed mix. 

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in landscaping, ecological restoration, or related outdoor work is highly preferred.

• Willingness to apply herbicide using conservative yet effective methods of application.

• Knowledge of native and invasive plant identification is a strong plus.

• Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labor in diverse weather conditions and challenging terrain.  Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

• Strong work ethic, attention to detail and safety, ability to follow instructions, and a curiosity to learn about ecological landscaping.  

• Collaboration and flexibility in a team setting with ecological/conservation professionals.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to and from job sites.

Details & Compensation:

• This is a part-time position ranging from 20-25 hours per week Monday - Thursday.

• 60-day trial period as 1099 subcontractor. Potential to become a W-2 employee.

• Competitive pay plus a performance-based pay review at 60 days.

• $200 gas card given quarterly
